Participants will explore the values and practices of early Benedictine life that support our current efforts “to cherish the wondrous works of God, and protect and restore the beauty and the integrity of all creation.” With presentations, guided meditation, and discussion, participants will discover how ancient and contemporary monastic wisdom can inform our lives during the climate crisis and give us hope for the future.

Samuel Torvend

Samuel Torvend is an Oblate of St. Benedict, Faculty Fellow in Humanities at Pacific Lutheran University, and Episcopal priest in the Diocese of Olympia. His most recent book is the highly acclaimed Monastic Ecological Wisdom: A Living Tradition (Liturgical Press, 2023).
