Nancy Joan Brighid
Nancy Joan Brighid is a Baptist preacher’s daughter who has had a calling to the spiritual
life since childhood. From 1988-2016, Nancy held a career as a field botanist, ecologist, and
educator. She did botanical and ecological field surveys all over the Inter- and Rocky Mountain
West from 1988-2012. Her career was mostly focused on helping the tribes, pueblos and public
land managers meet environmental compliance laws; and restore their lands and communities
to health. In the final decade of her career, she taught Indigenous and Indio-Hispano students
the conservation and environmental field sciences. Since Nancy took retirement in 2016, she
has been in AmeriCorps non-military federal service. She currently has the honor of running a
VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program for North Central New Mexico Economic
Development District. Nancy is an active member of three churches (AME, Episcopal, and
Catholic). She worships wherever she finds people walking the talk of the path of love as our
Christ Jesus taught it.
